Bringing a song recommendation to you everyday. Some you might know, some you might not.
The amount of new music being released on a daily basis, is truly mind-blowing. We attempt to scramble through some of it and find the hidden (and not so hidden) gems, whatever the genre or style.

Monday 29th June - Gorillaz - The Hardest Thing (feat. Tony Allen)
Any song that stops you in your tracks and makes you consider a person you know/have known or just miss provides a perfect start to any list. This is an amazing album, with many songs that could have been used. However ‘The Hardest Thing” sums up a perfect song to me…
Simple yet moving lyrics mixed with breathtaking music that complements the vocals and move you everytime you listen to it.
Tuesday 30th June - Chasing Abbey - T.a.L
Chasing Abbey are new to me this year but were established in 2016 in Tullamore, Ireland. The epitome of the overnight sensation! They show the continuing development of merging electronic and trad-influences which in this case provides a potent beat and rebel-rousing lyrics. T.a.L which translates to “Our Day Will Come” takes a stab at the current political structure.
Hoping to be in a mosh pit singing my lungs out to this song, one day!
Wednesday 1st July - Bonnie Paine - Lighthouse (feat. Rising Appalachia)
Sometimes you just have to acknowledge a beautiful vocalist. Bonnie Paine, lead vocalist of Elephant Revival, is one of them. Her 3rd single, from her recently released debut album, showcases her wonderful vocal talent. Ably supported by Rising Appalachia, her voice seems to effortlessly float through this song allowing you to drift into a background rhythm of relaxation and gentle tapping.

Thursday 2nd July - The Toughers - Libre Commo El Viento
A Columbian All-Star band formed in 2022, The Toughers encapsulate the ease of 1960’s Jamaican Ska. Listening, enjoying and when sitting in a hot room on a sunny Yorkshire day it makes you relax and smile. Thankfully it also works on the other 95% of days when it is cold and wet too.
This song shows how music translates. “Free As The Wind” is what you feel when sat enjoying the gentle beat, intracate musicianship and beautiful Spanish vocals drift over you.
Friday 3rd July - Ren - Vincent’s Tale - Starry Night - Act 1
If by any chance you have missed Ren, he is a welsh born singer, songwriter and rapper. He can spit lyrics faster than I can think! He often covers uncomfortable subjects in an astute and hard hitting way.
This time he is taking aim at the establishment and the continuous grinding down of the population by media, the super rich and politicians. Backed up by a booming bass, this eloquent anger hits home and shows one of the many forms of thoughtful rebel song.
Saturday 4th July - The Rookie Numbers - Dichotomy
A Leeds based Ska band with what seems like unbound energy. Dichotomy is another poke at the establishment with a fantastic brass section creating a hook that then drives the call and response of the lyrics.
If you get chance to see The Rookie Numbers, do not miss out. It is truly an experience and wonderful to see a new young band mixing strong, high energy, original music with a respectful nod to some older Ska bangers - NOT ON SOUNDCLOUD PLAYLIST
Sunday 5th July - Cosey Mueller - Contraddict
Finally for this week some German post punk synth. Sometimes a song catches your ear and just makes you follow it. Cosey Mueller style does that. As a prelude to her new album “Embodiment Of Denial”, Contraddict eases you into a synth world that allows you to let loose in the kitchen as you make your lunch….
Do not nave anything sharp in hand as you explore her addictive style and start busting moves to her complete and hypnotic repertoire.
